European Diabetes Research Award

Sindre Lee-Ødegård

Sindre Lee-Ødegård, a researcher at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital, has been awarded the Rising Award and Fellowship for 2025 by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). He is the first recipient from Norway to receive this honour, which recognises his work on improving insulin sensitivity in South Asian women with gestational diabetes through physical activity and precision medicine.

Lee-Ødegård expressed immense gratitude for the award, stating that it inspires him to continue his important work. His research aims to develop more personalised treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes, which are increasingly prevalent health issues linked to lifestyle, genetics, and social inequality. By employing modern methods such as bioinformatics and machine learning, he aims to better understand disease mechanisms and discover effective treatments.

He emphasises the necessity of translating knowledge into practice to benefit patients and society. Lee-Ødegård's goal is to combine research and innovation with a strong focus on patient care. He highlights the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues and mentors as key to achieving success.

In light of this achievement, the Oslo Diabetes Research Centre extends its congratulations to Lee-Ødegård for this prestigious recognition.
